A presentation on Moles and Mining, a study from the Great Victoria Desert was jointly delivered at the Goldfields Environmental Management Group (GEMG) Workshop 21 May 2008 by Belinda Bastow AngloGold Ashanti Australia Environmental Manager for Expoloration and Tropicana and Dr Stewart Ford Manager Vertebrate Fauna ecologia Environment.

 The presentation concluded that proponent companies and consultants:

  • Must consider very cryptic threatened flora and fauna issues when selecting biological survey techniques
  • Obtain input from appropriate Threatened Species Specialists when designing alternative survey techniques to ensure stakeholder acceptance
  • Beware of sandy areas - you never know what lives there…
