The Pallinup River – Bremer Bay region is known to be botanically rich and has been actively collected by Australian botanists for over a hundred years. It was therefore very exciting to collect an undescribed species of Latrobea during a recent regional vegetation assessment survey undertaken in association with the Grange Resources Southdown Magnetite project.
Latrobea is an endemic Western Australian genus and is part of the egg-and-bacon group of peas. This species does not appear to be closely allied with any of the currently known species and has the unique character, for the genus, of having recurved margins, rather than incurved margins of the leaves. Further studies are expected in spring 2008 in order to describe this interesting species.
Typical habitat that the species occurs in.
