Fresh from a name change, Sherwin Iron (formerly Batavia Mining Limited) is progressing with its Roper River Iron Ore Project in the Northern Territory of Australia. Sherwin Iron maintains three Exploration Licenses and one Exploration Licence Application, totaling an area of 3,444 km2.
The Roper River Iron Ore Project is located approximately 475 km south east of Darwin, some 80 km east of Mataranka and Stuart Highway, 125 km east of the Darwin-Adelaide railway line and 100 km west of the Gulf of Carpenteria. Sherwin Iron envisages its initial project to be the Hodgson Downs deposit producing 2 Million tones of ore per annum (Mtpa), increasing to 4-5 Mtpa. This Project precedes potential further developments at Sherwin Creek and Mount Scott, as well as prospects extending to the east of the tenement.
ecologia visited the Roper River Project area during 2010 and carried out surveys on fauna, vegetation and flora. ecologia has also provided environmental management assistance to Sherwin Iron through desktop assessments and correspondence with Northern Territory government agencies, establishing the various levels of assessment required for progression of the Project.
