Sinosteel Midwest Management (SMM) are presently conducting an iron ore exploration programme along Weld Range located 60 kilometres northwest of Cue in Western Australia. Pursuant to the State's environmental approvals process an iron ore mining operation may be developed at Weld Range.

During botanical surveys undertaken by ecologia as part of the environmental approvals process many plant species of conservation value have been identified at Weld Range. In order to assist on ground management of priority flora and for general workforce education a Priority Flora Handbook has been produced. The Handbook provides information on 20 Priority Flora species that have been found to date at Weld Range giving details of appearance, flowering, habitat and distribution on the Range.
