ANDREW

PRINCIPAL BOTANIST

Andrew is our Principal Botanist and has over 12 years’ experience in plant systematics, taxonomy, conservation biology and environmental consulting.

Andrew specialises in field botany, plant species identification, ecological data analysis, and vegetation classification. He has extensive experience conducting  flora and vegetation surveys across the South-West, Eremaean, Northern, and Interzone botanical provinces of Western Australia. Andrew completed his doctorate at Flinders University, specialising in the taxonomy, molecular phylogenetics and conservation genetics of Frankenia (sea-heaths) in Australia. Since then, he has worked as a taxonomist at the State Herbarium of South Australia reviewing Frankenia and the Fabaceae tribe Mirbelieae (egg-and-bacon peas) for the Flora of South Australia (ed. 5). Andrew has been involved in a number of collaborative research projects, including a taxonomic revision of Eriocaulon (pipeworts) taxa endemic to Australian mound-springs, and the molecular phylogenetics of Ceratina (small carpenter bees). In addition to his role with ecologia, Andrew is a Research Associate at the WA Herbarium, where he continues taxonomic research on Frankenia.
