| Ecologia Environment’s Asset Development Project team was responsible for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s major expansion works in the Pilbara region from 2001 to mid 2006. During that time we’ve assisted in the development of; - Mining Area C;
- Ore Body 18;
- Ore Body 24;
- Products & Capacity Expansion of Port Hedland port facilities;
- Expansion of rail infrastructure;
- Capacity upgrades at Yandi, Newman and Jimblebar; and
- A series of Rapid Growth Projects to increase capacity throughout the production system infrastructure.
In 2001, BHP Billiton Iron Ore asked Ecologia to act as its in-house environmental management team for the project. We oversaw all construction-phase aspects of; - Biological investigations;
- Environmental approvals;
- Contractor management; and
- Environmental management
Through the appointment of a full time Environmental Manager in the ADP group and supporting Environmental Advisors for on-site works, we addressed the following challenges; - The achievement of required statutory approvals without significantly impacting the project development schedules;
- The implementation of a three tiered, business unit-wide environmental management system; – Owner's management team – ADP – EPCM – Contractors
- ISO14001 accreditation audits by third party auditors;
- Successful due diligence assessments of over $5 billion of investment projects;
- Cultural change and an awareness program for a construction workforce of 2,500; and
- Recognition as setting the industry benchmark for environmental performance in major resource industry construction.
